Constitution of Ohio University American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Student Chapter

Article I. Name


The name of this organization shall be American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).


Article II. Purpose


The purpose of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers shall be to promote professional and personal development of Chemical Engineering students.


Article III. Membership


The members of this group shall consist of Ohio University students.


Article IV. Officers


Section I. Executive Committee
The Executive Committee shall consist of the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Section II. Selection of Officers
Selection of officers shall be done by the members of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers by election to occur during the Spring Quarters.

Section III. Term of Office
The term of office shall be one year.

Section IV. Vacancies
Should an officer's position become vacant during the year a special election is to be held within two weeks.


Article V. Meetings


Section I. Meetings
Regular meetings of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers shall be held bimonthly.

Section II. Special Meetings
Special meetings of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers shall be held when the Executive Committee deems it necessary.


Article IV. Amendments


This constitution may be amended by the Executive Committee. Proposed amendments to the Constitution will be posted in the Department of Chemical Engineering for two weeks. Actual Amendments will be made by the Executive Committee.




Bylaws


Article I. Dues


Dues for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers shall be determined by the Executive Committee and Advisor(s).


Article II. Duties of Members


Section I. Duties of Officers
The President shall run meetings and control the affairs and actions of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

The Vice President shall share the overall responsibilities of the President.

The Secretary shall keep records of all the affairs and actions of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. This includes taking minutes at all meetings and reading them at the following meeting. Minutes must include the number of persons attending, date, and a brief on the major topics discussed. The person taking the minutes should initial and date them at the bottom right hand corner of the paper.

The Treasurer shall be in charge and have responsibilities of all funds for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. This includes collecting dues, dispersing checks, and keeping records of all transactions. A Treasurer's Report should be read at all meetings.

The Executive Committee shall hold at least one Officer Meeting before all regular meetings.

Article III. Advisor


Section I. Selection of Advisor
The advisor shall be appointed by the Chairman of the Department of Chemical Engineering.

Section II. Vacancy
Should the advisor's position becom vacant during the year, a replacement shall be appointed by the Chairman of the Department of Chemical Engineering.

Article IV. Committees


Section I. Permanent Committees
All permanent committees shall be formed by the Executive Committee and will consist of members of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Section II. Ad-hoc Committees
All ad-hoc committees shall be formed by the Executive Committee and will consist of members of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.


Article V. Rules of Order


Section I. Organization Rules
The American Institute of Chemical Engineers shall be governed by rules for Ohio University organizations as well as rules for student chapters of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Section II. Purchases
All purchases for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (i.e. sale items, any equipment, food for socials, picnics, etc.) should be approved by the President and Treasurer. If purchases are made without prior approval, a reimbursement may not be given.

Section III. Advertisements
Signs advertising events, meetings, etc. for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers should be posted at least 3 business days before the event. Thus, all information** which needs to be advertised must be submitted to the Secretary 5 business days before the event. (**date, time, place, etc.)

Any signs with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers slogan must be approved by the Secretary. Any signs, advertisements, sign-up sheets, etc. that are not approved by the Secretary will not be supported by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Section IV. Committees
A representative from each committee will contact an officer regarding club business on the first and third Monday. Contact may be in person or over the phone**. If the committee is working on a major project, a representative should check in at least once a week. (**messages on answering machines are acceptable.)

When meetings of individual committees are held outside official meetings of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers meeting, minutes of the meeting are to be taken and given to the Secretary the following business day. If the Secretary is unable to be reached, the minutes may be put in the American Institute of Chemical Engineers' mailbox or left with the advisor in the Department of Chemical Engineering in Stocker Engineering Building and Technology Center. Minutes should include the number of persons attending, date, and a brief on the major topics discussed. The person taking the minutes should initial and date them at the bottom right hand corner of the paper.

Deadlines and dates set by a committee should be approved by the President and the Vice President. If approval is not given, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers will not support the deadline.
