2011 Task 3
Home Up

This team's task was to propose a way to clean reverse osmosis water filtration membranes.  Their solution was to combine several techniques already commonly used but with the idea that, used together in the order and manner proposed, the treatments are safer for the people doing the cleaning and less harsh to the membrane itself.

The bench-scale demonstration rig.  Because of the need to contain the entire apparatus in case of spills or leaks, it was "housed" in a plastic landscaping pond purchased at Home Depot. In the center is the sonicator holding the housing which contained the R/O membrane.   Visited by a judging team.
The intrepid Task 3 team along with the two profs.
